Our 2011 campaign

February 13, 2011

Welcome to 2011. This is the year when we may actually succeed in
eliminating the BNP from our local councils.

At present, there are still six council seats in North Staffordshire
occupied by the BNP: five in Stoke-on-Trent and one in the Staffordshire
Moorlands. However, with all-out elections in both authorities in May
2011, we have a historic opportunity to defeat the BNP for once and for
all. If we fail, we will be saddled with fascist councillors until at
least 2015.

The BNP are already leafleting in many areas of the City, and are
ratcheting up their Islamophobic agenda with their anti-halal meat
campaign. In the context of increased community tensions, the recent
arson attack on the Regent Road mosque and the activities of the Stoke
City division of the EDL, we cannot afford to be complacent.

We are planning a series of activities from now until the May elections,
including Days of Action and a community cohesion conference in March.

Cameron’s ‘smoke screen’ didn’t work. His claim that multiculturalism hasn’t worked is an attempt to detract from the ‘cuts’ , his party’s policies and their impact on his ‘popularity’, which is declining even more. This sort of speech panders to the current media frenzy of islamophobia and is not a true picture of Britain’s cities. Stoke-on-Trent is a case in hand. Diverse communities co-exist, rich cultures prevail. Tolerance is key!

Well done to the Norscarf group who leafleted Meir North alongside HopenotHate today in the early stages of the campaign mounted to ensure that Stoke becomes BNP free!
