Humiliation for Stoke fascists after NorSCARF campaign.

July 28, 2012

Local anti-fascists have been celebrating a job well done after the Nazi British National Party and the new fascist splinter group the Democratic Nationalists were humiliated after receiving a dismal result in the Springfields and Trent Vale by-election on the 26th of July.

Local anti-fascists from NorScarf and Unite Against Fascism leafleted the entire ward with leaflets explaining the grim reality of the two Nazis standing in the election. The leaflets amongst other things, quoted BNP candidate Coleman who once stated “I certainly am a racist and I don’t apologise for that.”

The BNP at one point had nine councillors in Stoke city council making them the second largest party in the city. However in the by-election, despite a visit from Nazi BNP fuehrer Nick Griffin, Coleman only managed a pathetic 27 votes!

The new fascist group the Democratic Nationalists fared even worse. After bragging about support they had pulled down from Yorkshire to help leafleting they only secured 2 votes! Presumably their candidate, local hate-monger Mark Leat, managed to secure one vote other than his own.

Much was made of the Nazi British National Party’s (BNP) decision to stand their local leader, Michael Coleman, in the Springfields and Trent Vale by-election. The local newspaper, the Sentinel, chose the headline BNP planning to make comeback, for their main article announcing the by-election after the shock resignation of the Labour local authority finance chief.

However it seems that the people of Stoke-on-Trent, after suffering ten years of the blight of the BNP in council, have made it clear that racism and fascism are not the alternative that the city and its people need.
