EDL cancels march but still plans to rally in Manchester

The EDL have cancelled a march in Didsbury, Manchester, on 20th October, but still plans to hold a rally. Here is a statement from Stand Up To Racism Manchester;

The EDL have called off their march on Didsbury mosque.

After growing and widespread opposition across the city the EDL have abandon their planned national march to ‘shut down’ Didsbury mosque. Council leader Ricard Leese, Manchester Cllrs Rabnawaz Akbar, and Ben Clay, were amongst the hundreds who signed a statement opposing the Nazi EDL march. Unions – including the PCS, NEU, and the GMB – opposed the march on the mosque.

The racists have been forced to abandoned their march.

Now they say they will meet in the city centre Manchester for a rally.

There can be no place for Nazis in our city.
