On 17th November NorSCARF members went by coach to London for the National Unity Demonstration against racism and fascism. According to official figures, 40,000 of us marched from Portland Place to Whitehall, with many people on the sidelines taking photos and placards to wave. At Whitehall, there were speeches and messages from numerous people, including MPs, trade union officials, and other campaigners. Whilst the mood was celebratory and positive, it was also one of determination and unity.
This march far outnumbered anything that the far right have organised this year. It shows that ordinary people will always come together to reject racism, and we’ll always beat it through solidarity and opposition to far right ideologies.
